Bay Port Musical- Good News

Click here to order your event tickets.

Good News is a story that is set in 1928 on the campus of Tait College.  Football is king on the Tait campus and Tait's football star "the best fullback in the USA" is Tom Marlowe.  The problem is that Tom does not take his studies seriously and has failed Astronomy right before the biggest game of the year (which makes him ineligible to play in the game.)  The students protest and the Astronomy professor...who once was dating the football coach...decides she can give him one more chance by retaking his last test.  Tom's tutor (Connie) helps him prepare for his test because Tom's girlfriend Pat is just too busy with sorority responsibilities and Tom begins to fall in love with Connie.  Also on the football team is Bobby who has never been put in a game and his girlfriend Babe....the most popular flapper on campus.  As the big game approaches all kinds of fun situations develop.   According to famed Broadway critic Peter Filichia, this musical has more memorable songs in it that any other show listed in his book (he identifies eight of them).  Some examples of the songs are: You're the Cream in My Coffee,  Button Up Your Overcoat, Lucky in Love, Keep Your Sunnyside Up, The Best Things in Life are Free and the show stopping Charleston dance number...The Varsity Drag.   If you want to have a night of pure fun entertainment with great toe-tapping music of the 1920's this is definitely the show for you!

Up & Coming Nashville Star Returns to Former Elementary School

HOKeslerDeRuyter2.jpgKesler De Ruyter, Bay Port High School graduate and rising Nashville country music star, returned home to Howard Elementary School to spend some time before Thanksgiving break to visit with the 4th graders. He spoke about the importance of school and working hard for what you want in life, setting goals, following your dreams, and being a good person all of the time. Two weeks ago, Kesler signed with a publishing company then flew home to sing “The National Anthem” at the Packer-Vikings game before spending some time with his family. He picked up a guitar at the age of 7, but never had any formal lessons.  He has been busy writing songs for a while. Vande Hei, 4th Grade Teacher, remembers Kesler as “a quiet yet active boy with an amazing voice”.  Amy Bero, Music Teacher said, “I knew he would become someone someday if he continued to sing”. We are so proud of Kesler and look forward to following him on his path to continued success! He will begin touring next year.
